Description of the Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450V 100A
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450V 100A is capable of charging a battery with a charging current of up to 100A and supports a voltage on photovoltaic panels of up to 450V.
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450V 100A is capable of charging a 48V battery from the energy produced by the solar panels. You need a solar panel voltage of at least 120V for your regulator to start, which can work in an optimal range between 80 and 450V to function optimally.
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450V 100A only works with 48V batteries, although thanks to its Bluetooth interface, we can manually select the charging voltages at each stage independently, as well as set a multitude of parameters based on our needs.
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450V 100A incorporates 2 independent MPPT regulators with a maximum input current of 18A each (20A in open circuit), so the size of the solar field supported by each tracker reaches up to 7200Wp (450V x 20A).
What is a charge controller? And how is an MPPT controller different?
Thanks to the Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450V 100A we can use panels in long strings or series without any problem with minimal energy loss thanks to its superior efficiency. The regulator will increase the charging intensity by reducing the voltage to match the voltage needed by the battery, so as not to lose a single watt (W) of power in the process.
The main advantage of being a 450V model is that it can use a voltage in solar panels that is practically equivalent to a grid-connected inverter and obtain higher efficiency, minimizing losses due to working at low voltage. It allows us to install around 10 panels per series, depending on their working voltage.
As it is an MPPT regulator, when the weather conditions are adverse, even with clouds or rain, the intensity of the light changes continuously, with the Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450V 100A we can adapt to the new situations that arise at each moment of a quickly and efficiently getting the most out of the solar panel in any situation. Working at a high voltage, the losses due to voltage oscillations are much lower.
